It has misfires, but it also has a lot of great stuff. Is Kikuchi's soundtrack perfect? Hell no.

That and they'll never work with Faulconer again after he tried to sue them (and he lost). I'm glad Funimation has moved past replacing the entire soundtrack, leaving things as intended. Sure there are some decent tracks, but they lose merit when you learn that Faulconer didn't compose them, he took credit and it wasn't until years later we learned the real composers. The mood is always wrong, and it keeps blaring during quieter moments. I cringe every time I see a clip with the Faulconer soundtrack. Let's not forget the vocal themes composed by takeshi ike in dragon ball The only track of faulconner that i find decent is the vegeta's theme (the one with the piano)Īnyway, here's one of kikuchi's track that people often forget, it fits perfectly when piccolo sacrifice himself : i just can't like this butt rock that faulconner do.Īs for kai/super soundtrack, i'm not a big fan either, there's some good one here and there but i mostly didn't liked it, still better than faulconner though. and it's not even the best anime soundtrack of that time, i'm just comparing the two. I grew up with the kikuchi one, and like everyone else, regardless of what you grew up with, i'm tied to nostalgia, so i don't judge other people tastes, it's all subjective in the end.īut as an adult i see everything with a different eye now, a lot of things i liked as a kid i find it bad now.Īs for faulconner vs kikuchi, there's absolutely no doubt, kikuchi destroys it IMO. That's where it fails the most.Faulconner always sounded like trash to me With the Japanese soundtrack all these moments are scored roughly the same with little to make the scenes stand out. These all signify iconic moments of the franchise. Vegeta's theme, Gohan Angers, Pikkon's theme, SSJ3's theme. Even if it isn't the best in some places, when it shines it really shines. Terribly recycled as certain battle tunes feel utterly indistinguishable from Kid Goku fighting King Piccolo to SSJ Goku fighting Frieza. From Dragonball through DBZ the Japanese soundtrack feels stock and recycled. Some tracks fit sadder scenes better than Faulconer, but that's about it. It takes no risks, and makes no effort to be recognizable. It would better fit something from the sixties or even fifties. I'd even going so far as to say it's outdated for the show it's put to. It's not conveying Dragonball Z's uniqueness. It's not taking advantage of the setting and characters.

You could place it to any animation or movie and get the same effect. The classical Japanese soundtrack is just.generic. Goku's theme when he goes SSJ conveys rage, surging power, and transformation. The techno and light rock creates a sense of dread and foreboding in the quiet moments, power and excitement in the battles. All with the capacity to destroy planets, conquer the galaxy, shape the universe. You have characters with otherworldly powers and abilities, aliens, cyborgs, genetic abominations and psychotic infantile demons. FLAIR FILTERINGįaulconer's soundtrack is much, much more exciting, tense, and memorable because of its uniqueness. The moderation team reserves the right to action posts at their own discretion.
